On Friday, October 31, 2014, three missionaries from the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries left for Liberia on a mission to assist the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church and the Health Board to respond to the Ebola crises in Liberia.
Photos of the sending are available as a GBGM Facebook Photo Album
The missionaries are Mary Zigbuo, Helen Roberts-Evans, and Rev. Priscilla L. Jaiah.
Rev. Jaiah, a GBGM Missionary supported by churches in the California-Pacific Conference, outlines the mission as having the following tasks:
-
Training of health staff in infection control
-
Providing the needed infection control supplies, PPE, and emergency supplies
-
Providing support to families including care and reintegration back to communities
-
Promoting collaboration with all stakeholders in community mobilization to trace contacts
-
Providing pastoral counseling to traumatize family members and help children whose parents died from the Ebola virus
Rev. Jaiah comments that, in addition to these preliminary tasks, there will surely be more to do when they arrive.
