In an effort to support faith and leadership formation in our young people, as well as the flourishing of local ministries, the California-Pacific Conference is seeking interns to serve in full-time, paid internship roles with partnering local churches and outreach ministries during the summer of 2019.
Intern 2019, in its pilot season, welcomes intern applications from those between the ages of 19 and 25 interested in developing leadership skills and gaining ministry experience in response to a sense of call to serve God and neighbor. Interns will not only be engaged in full-time (40 hours/week) purposeful service, but will find support and opportunities for reflection and discernment in community with their peers and Intern 2019 program leadership.
Applicants for host sites (of all ministry types) will commit to provide an intern with engaging opportunities for purposeful service and leadership, contextualized training, and pastoral mentoring for 8-10 weeks. A site supervisor will dedicate time to the on-site tasks of training, observation, performance assessment and reflection, and mentoring.
As best as possible, interns will be matched with host sites that offer experience in a ministry area of interest, or to a site best suited to their gifts. Both interns and host sites may name on their application a preferred match. (We encourage interns to seek experience outside of their home church contexts.)
The host site will be responsible for serving as the official employer of the intern, and providing half of the intern’s wages. The Conference will reimburse the other half. While dependent on the site’s jurisdiction, the estimated contribution of the host site will be close to $2,000. Housing and transportation are not assured, but may be negotiated by the host site as appropriate.
Orientations for both interns and site supervisors will be mandatory to participate in the program.
The application deadline is April 12, 2019. Placements will be made on a rolling basis, and final announcements will be sent by April 22nd.
For more information, or with questions regarding the program or applications, please contact Rev. Darin Arntson (darntson@calpacumc.org) or Rev. David Berkey (dberkey@calpacumc.org).
We look forward to serving more closely together in this important work of serving our communities and empowering a new generation of leaders.
