The Spanish American Institute (SAI) is announcing the applications for the 2020 SAI/UMC scholarships are now available.
The SAI Board of Directors offers yearly $1,000 scholarships to deserving United Methodist Youth who plan to attend a four-year college or university, two-year community college, or accredited technical/vocational school. The SAI/UMC scholarships have been offered since 2015.
This application is for scholarships for the fall 2020 semester and is open to any student who will be enrolled full-time for the fall semester. Deserving students will have an opportunity to pen their challenges and successes to obtain their higher education in a required 500 word essay. Upon review, scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of May, followed by recognition of scholarship awards occurring at the Cal-Pac Annual Conference in June at the University of Redlands.
Applying students must: 1) have had a minimum of one-year membership with a local UMC of the California-Pacific Conference, 2) provide a letter of recommendation from the local pastor/youth leader indicating the leadership contributions by the student, and 3) complete the SAI/UMC application process to be eligible to receive an award.
This effort to develop Latino leaders in our California-Pacific Conference is fully supported by the Cal-Pac Office of Hispanic/Latino Ministries. For more information, contact Bob Arvizu, SAI Student Services member, at 818.744.6193 or visit https://saischolars.org/.
The deadline for students to apply is April 26, 2020.
