Note: This post has been updated with a picture of Rev. Alma Johnson-Hawkins and a correction of a title.
It is my joy to announce the special interim appointment of Rev. Alma Johnson-Hawkins to the position of “Leadership for an Inclusive Church.” Rev. Johnson-Hawkins will be focusing on our new initiative in revitalizing our historic African American churches and also giving oversight to selected areas of leadership. She will work closely with our new Executive Director of Connectional Ministries, Erin Hawkins, and me in creating an anti-racism initiative for the entire annual conference.
Rev. Johnson-Hawkins most recently has served as the Director of Field Education for the Claremont School of Theology and Interim Director of Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE). She has served as a Senior Administrator in higher education and also as a local church pastor. She brings a wealth of knowledge, experiences and skills to this new position.
Rev. Johnson-Hawkins is married to Rev. Cavalain Hawkins, an Elder serving at Hollypark UMC in the West District.
Please welcome Rev. Johnson-Hawkins to our staff and pray for her transition!
Blessings,
Bishop Grant J. Hagiya
Los Angeles Area Resident Bishop
