In the California-Pacific Conference, we have five districts that keep us connected and these are our leaders that help lead us. Each District is led by a District Superintendent (DS) and is supported by a leadership team that works together to provide support, information, and programmatic events for the district and groups connected with the conference and larger connection (national UMC). Both Youth and Young Adult Ministries are mandated by the Book of Discipline (BOD) to be on this team and are led by a District Youth Coordinator and District Young Adult Coordinator.

This class is open to participants from all Cal-Pac districts. All those seeking certification as a Certified Lay Servant are invited to attend.
The course uses a Wesleyan theological frame—connection—to help readers understand United Methodism’s polity and organization as the interrelationship of our beliefs, mission, and practice. The course is organized into four parts: United Methodist beliefs, mission, practice, and organization.
Polity and organization are primary embodiments of The United Methodist Church. Functional in nature, these aspects of the denomination facilitate our mission to make disciples for the transformation of the world. The book connects denominational governance and organization to our beliefs as well as our mission.
A clear understanding of our identity—as Methodists with Wesleyan roots in connection—and our purpose—to make disciples for the transformation of the world—can help students of United Methodism navigate this treacherous landscape as present and future leaders.
- Order this book: All participants will need a copy of The Method of Our Mission by Laceye Warner (Amazon, Cokesbury, Upper Room).
- The instructor is Rev. Rich Garner, former District Superintendent and chair of the Board of Ordained Ministry. Rev. Garner is a retired elder of the California-Pacific Conference and an experienced instructor for this course.
- Attendance is required at all sessions for credit. All those seeking certification as a Certified Lay Servant are invited to attend. The BASIC class and one Advanced Class is required to successfully apply for Certified Lay Servant status.

Any adult who would like time to work on creative projects, be with others, learn more about connections between creativity and spirituality is invited to attend this retreat. However, capacity is limited at the retreat center (limited to 7 participants).
As people made in the image of a Creating God, we are each one imbued with creativity! Anyone is welcome to attend this retreat where we will gather, share in table fellowship, relax, and dive into our creative core.
If you are working on a project that you just can’t find the time to complete, this retreat is for you! Do you let your creative endeavors fall to the bottom of your to-do list, this retreat is for you! Maybe there is a new creative skill that you want to learn, this retreat is for you!
Time will be spent in individual creative flow, shared meals, a morning and evening devotion, plus some creative spiritual time enjoyed together as a group. No previous expertise required!
Our retreat leader is Marlene Urban-Funk, who has been leading retreats for over 30 years and takes time daily to create in one way or another. She is not an artist by training, but deeply believes that every person is created to create.
