Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO) presents Global Justice and Solidarity: Implementing Agenda 2030, Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Action.
May 24, 2023
Conference of Non-government Organizations (NGOs) in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO) is celebrating its 75th Anniversary with a series of global thematic webinars to generate engagement, cooperation and urgent action on global issues that are daily concerns of the broadest range for NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Register here for the Global Justice and Solidarity Second Webinar, June 5th, 2023, 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., PDT (June 6th, 11:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. ChST). The session will be recorded.
“Global justice and solidarity are built into the purposes and operations of most NGOs/CSOs,” said The Rev. Dr. Liberato (Levi) Bautista, Assistant General Secretary for United Nations and International Affairs, General Board of Church and Society, and President of CoNGO. “We struggle individually and collectively, every day and every year, to meet basic human needs, reduce suffering and improve aspirations of people and the planet in a time when global inequities are widening, a climate emergency time bomb is ticking, and millions are affected by ongoing or new catastrophes.”
According to organizers of the webinar series, pursuing global justice is an imperative of our time and our collective responsibility to ensure the right to development for all residents and nations of the earth. Debt crises, inequalities, wars, and conflicts have pushed countries to the brink, where governments cannot provide adequate health, education, social protection and other human rights for their citizens.
In placing this issue in the context of Agenda 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals, and reinvigorated Humanitarian Action, this second webinar will seek to foster renewed cooperation between the United Nations System and the worldwide NGO/CSO constituencies.
Participants in the webinar will also consider needed financing for development mechanisms and the importance of restoring confidence in multilateralism. Closely associated with that is the absolute requirement for governments to substantially increase the funding of the United Nations System to adequately fulfill the mandates set for it in the United Nations Charter and multiple UN General Assembly Resolutions.
“The Webinar’s outputs will become inputs to the UN High-Level Political Forum (July 2023), UN SDG Summit (September 2023), and UN Summit of the Future (September 2024),” Bautista said.
