[Position Filled] Call for Volunteer in Unique Opportunity as Treasurer of the Disaster Response TF (Justice & Compassion)

Update: We are happy to report that the position has been filled. Thank you for your interest.

The California-Pacific Conference Disaster Response Task Force is seeking to fill the position of the Treasurer of its ministry team.

The Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, appointed by our Bishop, heads this team of individuals representing congregations from all five Districts. The Task Force recruits and trains volunteers to serve on early response and recovery/rebuild teams serving in our Conference and across the country, wherever the need arises.

Our long-serving Treasurer is moving out of state within the next few months, so it’s hoped that an interested individual might step forward soon to have the opportunity for one-on-one training and orientation.

The main job is to track income, such as donations earmarked for a designated disaster, FEMA and UMCOR grants, and Global Ministries funds so that they are credited to the correct fund. Then the associated expenses, checks, and reimbursements must be accounted for and detailed as needed in reports to the different organizations.

A list of duties and skills needed might include:

  1. Having experience in or an understanding of accounting
  2. Have or acquire an understanding of designated funding
  3. Computer and internet capabilities, including Excel and email
  4. Be a member of the Disaster Response Task Force and attending monthly (virtual) meetings
  5. Ability to work and network with Conference financial staff
  6. Willingness to become educated in the ministry of disaster response and all its entities and partners at local, state, and federal/national levels

This ministry team is a busy, multi-tasking task force empowered to respond to different conditions (fire, tornado, hurricane, flood-damaged home, or the humanitarian crisis of asylum seekers and immigrants) in many other areas of the country.

The needs of so many can be challenging, but the rewards of being able to answer Jesus’ call to serve can be great.

If interested, please contact our Cal-Pac Disaster Response Coordinator, Karl Ports (kports95@gmail.com, 619.823.8424), with any questions.

You can also visit the Disaster Response Task Force’s page at calpacumc.org/disasterresponse for more information about this vital outreach ministry. The Task Force extends an invitation to any and all individuals to join our group as we strive to answer the call to be a caring presence to all survivors of disaster.
