You are invited to the book launch party for Here: A Spirituality of Staying in a Culture of Leaving on Saturday, March 1st at Claremont United Methodist Church (211 W. Foothill Blvd, Claremont, CA 91711) at 2 p.m. Written by Cal-Pac elder, Lydia Sohn, the book braids spiritual reflection with personal memoir and addresses the restlessness and FOMO that’s rampant in our age of hyper mobility and infinite possibilities, convincing us that we’d be happier elsewhere when the little known truth is that it works the other way around, from the inside out.
Lydia will be joined by fellow clergy and authors for an author panel where they will discuss the themes of the book like: What does it mean to put down roots in our transient and hypermobile age? How do we deal with the constant FOMO, restlessness, and envy that emerge within us? What’s worth staying for and what’s worth leaving for? How can we transform our circumstances from the inside out? What happens to our land and our identities when we’re continually on the move? What does stability look like for UMC ministers who commit to a system of itinerancy?
There will also be a book signing, delicious refreshments, and a fun raffle of gift cards to popular Claremont spots like Some Crust Bakery, the botanical gardens, and more.
The event is free and open to the public but RSVPs are encouraged at launchforhere.eventbrite.com.
