Home | Director of Music and Worship Arts (Glendale First UMC)
Purpose: The purpose of the Director of Music and Worship Arts is to be a spiritual leader who uses the gift of music to cultivate an atmosphere of authentic worship to help the church fulfill its mission to be Christ’s love in this world, healing mind, body, and spirit.
Description: As a key part of the Worship Ministry at GFUMC, the Director of Music and Worship Arts will oversee the music aspect of the Traditional worship service in close collaboration with the clergy. This position oversees staff and volunteer singers for the Traditional Service, as well as the Handbell Choir Director. GFUMC seeks to create a worshipful experience that helps participants understand the love of Christ for their own healing, and so that they can help create healing in the world. To that end, we seek to offer music that is grounded in United Methodist theology and tradition and offers a variety of musical styles to meet our congregational context. We believe in being good stewards of our giftings and resources. We do not seek perfection for the sake of performance; rather, we seek to be good stewards of our musical gifts so that our worship is a worthy and beautiful gift back to the Creator. Quality is important because it honors God, but spiritual and relational connection is our priority because it transforms us.
This position requires working on Sundays and all major Christian holidays such as Christmas Eve, Easter, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, etc. as well as special concerts throughout the year.

• Choose a variety of musical pieces that are accessible for volunteers of all experience levels.
• Empower the Section Leaders to assist volunteers as needed.
4. Special Events & Fundraisers
• Coordinate and direct two fundraiser concerts per year. These events should serve as both a musical offering to the community and a means to support the church’s mission.
• Approach these concerts as “outreach worship,” blending high-quality music with a spirit of hospitality and connection.
5. Collaborative Flexibility
• Maintain an open and flexible partnership with the Pastor(s), fulfilling additional duties as mutually agreed upon to support the evolving needs of the church’s spiritual life.
