Altadena United Methodist Church is growing! We are expanding our youth department in support of our growing and transitioning church. AUMC has an immediate need for a part-time (hourly) Children’s Nursery Teacher.
The Sunday School ministry consists of a nursery class, a pre-school and elementary class, middle school class, and teen class. Children’s Nursery Teacher provides safe and nurturing care for infants and young children in an environment that reflects the love of Christ. This role supports the mission of AUMC by laying the foundation of a child’s faith in a supportive community.
Position Details
• In-person in the city of San Gabriel on Sundays from 10:45 am to 1:15 pm. Additional time for teacher meetings, church events, and training sessions.
• Provides attentive, age-appropriate care for infants and toddlers.
• Leads children in prayer, bible stories, play, and activities aligned with Christian faith and values.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and welcoming nursery environment. Upholds health and safety standards including hygiene, emergency procedures, and child-to-teacher ratios.
• Communicates regularly with parents/guardians about special events.
• Works cooperatively with other Sunday School ministry teachers and leaders. Assists in the other Sunday School classes when needed.
• Prepares children for various church events.
• Greet and receive children from parents/guardians, ensuring accurate check-in/check-out procedures.
• Report any concerns to the Sunday School Chairperson, Pastor, or designated church leader.
Qualifications
• A personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
• Alignment with the values of the United Methodist Church.
• Experience caring for young children.
• Knowledge of the bible and willingness to grow spiritually.
• Ability to work well with parents, children, and volunteers.
• Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and volunteers.
• Ability to pass a background check and complete Safe Sanctuary training (upon hire).
• Completion of Safe Sanctuary training (upon hire).
• Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification (preferred, or willingness to obtain)
