Home | Supply Drive for Sherman Indian High School: Now Through August
The California-Pacific Conference invites churches, ministries, and individuals to participate in the annual supply drive for students at Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, CA now through the end of August. This annual outreach effort is an opportunity to remind the students at Sherman that they are seen, supported, and cherished by the wider community.
Sherman Indian High School is one of only four remaining off-reservation boarding schools still operated by the Bureau of Indian Education. While its history is complex, the present-day reality is that many students at Sherman face significant financial and personal challenges. Government funding often falls short, leaving gaps in essential supplies and personal care items that families are expected to provide.
Requested supplies fall into a few categories:
Clothes: New this year is the development of a Clothes Closet as staff noticed the number of students coming in need of additional clothing. Everything is needed from shoes (especially gym shoes), socks (white or black), and clothes of all sizes.
Art Supplies: Sketch or tracing paper pads, colored pencils, art markers, and gel pens.
Personal Supplies: Backpacks (high school age), reusable water bottles, personal hygiene items, shower caddies, laundry detergent.
Snacks: Shelf-stable items like chips, cookies, granola bars, crackers, peanut butter, ramen, popcorn.
Gift Cards: Teachers and administrators have requested small denomination gift cards to use as incentives, and larger amounts can be used for class and group function or unexpected general needs of the school and students.
Supply needs can be found on a flyer at this link.
Items can be brought to Native American United Methodist Church, 800 S Lemon St, Anaheim, 92805, through August. Funds can also be provided for items to be purchased.
