The California-Pacific Boundaries and Sexual Ethics Training is now available and all appointed clergy or lay person assigned, are required to complete it every three years. You can access the training at this link.
In 2025, the Annual Conference approved a new rule requiring this training for all clergy and lay persons assigned under episcopal appointment and as part of the application process for provisional membership or transfer into conference membership. This includes clergy serving under appointment, lay persons assigned, those transferring into conference membership, elders appointed to extension ministries, deacons appointed beyond the local church, and retired clergy serving under appointment.
Bishop Escobedo-Frank is a champion for this effort, sharing that “taking time to learn and reflect on healthy boundaries for clergy and congregations helps all of us be the hands and feet of Jesus for those in our midst.”
Since June 2025, Cal-Pac COSROW has worked with conference staff and consultants to design and create this online video training and it is now ready for you to complete to satisfy this rule requirement. You must complete the training within 30 days of this email.
The training consists of a workbook, 9 videos, and quiz questions following each video. The materials are presented in English, with transcript and quiz translations available in English and Spanish, with Korean, Tongan, and Vietnamese in development. You must answer 100% of the quiz questions correctly for successful completion; you will be able to see your results before submitting and correct answers as needed. Expect to spend 60 to 90 minutes completing this training. Please use Save & Resume, and email the link to yourself, if you need to walk away mid-training and return later. You can access the training at this link.
Your date of completion will be recorded in your digital record and will be available to your District Superintendent and the Episcopal Office, as verification that you have satisfied this pre-requisite for appointment. The training is required every three years, and you will begin receiving reminders of renewal 30 days before it is due again in 2029.
Trainings like this one are part of preventing harm to ourselves and our congregations, and we thank you for your participation and commitment to keeping our communities safe.
