Love
Psalm 85:8-13
“Faithful love and truth have met; righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth springs up from the ground; righteousness gazes down from heaven. Yes, the Lord gives what is good, and our land yields its produce. Righteousness walks before God, making a road for his steps.” Psalm 85:8-13
Sometimes the written word is so powerful and poetic to comment on it would only diminish its impact. Instead, today I invite you to read and reflect on these additional poetic expressions of God’s love for us.
“In his love he clothes us, enfolds us and embraces us;
that tender love completely surrounds us,
never to leave us.” Julian of Norwich
“Starting from scratch, he made the entire human race
and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time
and space for living so we could seek after God,
and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him.
He doesn’t play hide-and-seek with us. He’s not remote; he’s near.”
Acts 17:27-29 The Message
“Where there is love, there is a trinity; a lover,
a beloved and a spring of love.” Augustine of Hippo
“The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
“Love divine, all loves excelling Joy of heaven,
to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling,
and thy faithful mercies crown.” Charles Wesley
“’Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord,
who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10
“Keep us little and unknown, prized and loved
by God alone.” John Wesley
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your faithful love. May I love faithfully, too. Amen.
