Local Wildfires Update

Final Update: As of September 18th, 2024 both Camp Lazy W and Camp Wrightwood are fully intact and operational!

We wish to thank the firefighters, officers, deputies, support staff, Golden State Water, Edison, UIA, and the numerous unnamed personnel who protected us.

A message from Bishop Dottie Escobedo-Frank regarding the wildfires local to our conference:
During this season of devastation caused by the wildfires, our hearts are with those who are affected, including our camps, congregations, and churches. We lift up prayers for the safety of our firefighters, comfort to those who are evacuating, and protection for our communities. We pray for peace beyond understanding and thank God for first responders and volunteers who will lift up our communities as we seek relief and work toward rebuilding. May God be near us all.

The following updates were shared on Tuesday, and updated information will be provided as it is available [updated Wednesday, 9/11 at 10:45am]:

Our prayers are with all those affected by the ongoing wildfires in our area. Thank you for praying for the protection of our communities and facilities.

As of Wednesday morning, both Lazy W Ranch and Camp Wrightwood are under mandatory evacuation, but reports are that all staff are accounted for and safe. The camps are intact and functional, and staff continues to monitor campuses through onsite cameras.

Some of you have asked how you can help. Until we know the needs of our camps, congregations, and communities after the fires have been contained, the best way to help is through monetary donations. To give directly to the camps, visit:

Our Disaster Response Task Force is working with local relief groups and will take appropriate action as needed. Future requests may include volunteers to man local assistance centers and distribute resources.

We also have churches and their members who are under evacuation orders. We are coordinating with our South and East District offices for updates and to identify needs. Our prayers are with them; we will share updates and opportunities to support them as we receive them.

Please join us in keeping our firefighters and communities in prayer.
