To the Clergy and Lay Members of The California-Pacific Conference,

After formal criminal charges were made against him yesterday in a secular court of law, and by disciplinary action of the Executive Committee of the Board of Ordained Ministry of the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church, I am today suspending Pastor Stephen J. Howard from all clergy duties.

Furthermore, I am appointing the Rev. Roy Riggs to serve as supply pastor to the Muscoy United Methodist Church, effective today as well.

Let us continue to be in prayer for all who are affected by this very serious and difficult situation.
