Children and Youth Ministry Director (West Los Angeles United Methodist Church)

About the Role: The Children and Youth Ministry (CYM) Director is responsible to oversee and guide the Sunday School programs, special activities and all other ministry programs involving children and youth (ages Nursery – High School). The CYM Director will vision, plan and advocate for children and youth, particularly in the areas of discipleship; developing programs that nurture and develop their personal relationship with Jesus.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Create a welcoming, nurturing and learning environment for children and families.
2. Build trusting relationships and maintain regular communication with parents, outreach to new families, and increase involvement and attendance.
3. Plan activities and develop programming to promote relationship building and foster community on and beyond Sundays
4. Find ways to establish meaningful personal relationships with the Youth.
5. Recruit, train, screen, supervise, and support volunteers in all aspects of children’s ministry.

Desired Qualification:
1. Embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology, and WLAUMC as a Reconciling Ministries church and a historically Japanese American church.
2. Must complete Safe Gatherings background screening and Safe Sanctuary training.
3. Have a vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement Children and Youth’s ministry programs with the support of the Pastor, Youth Leaders, and Education leadership team.
4. Must have good written and verbal communication skills and conflict management abilities.
5. Ability to understand and appreciate the special needs of the youth and children of all ages.
6. Ability to understand and appreciate the feelings and concerns of parents.
7. A desire to build the Children and Youth ministry programs by creating strategies for outreach, participation, and attendance.

About West Los Angeles United Methodist Church
WLAUMC is an active, medium-sized congregation that was historically established as a ministry of outreach to the Japanese-American community but has become more inclusive and diverse in its congregational composition as we welcome all. WLAUMC is a Reconciling/LGBTQ+ Affirming Congregation.

Hours and Compensation: Part-time position, approximately 20 hours/week. Flexible hours, to be negotiated with Pastor and/or SPRC. Salary: $25/hour or commensurate with experience.
