In an effort to assist our churches in the development of abuse prevention policies, a sample policy has been developed and is now available via the button below and as a resource at calpacumc.org/localchurch

In the sample, there are references to Safe Gatherings certification, and some of the basic standards shown are taken from Safe Gatherings training. However, a church may use and adapt the sample to align with whatever abuse prevention program exists at the church.

The attached example of a local church abuse prevention policy should serve only as an example to assist local United Methodist Churches in developing their own policies. Once such a policy is developed, it should be recommended by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee and approved by the charge conference, then implemented in each local church. The example provided here is not mandated by the California-Pacific Conference, nor is it warranted as being legally sufficient or appropriate for each local church. It is not intended to represent legal advice.
