Required Reading is a new monthly series of recommendations on material for study in light of a particular topic.
With the topic of #progress and February being Black History Month, Rev. Kelvin Sauls, Senior Pastor of Holman United Methodist Church (Los Angeles, CA), and Tricia Hamilton, member of St. John United Methodist Church (Watts, CA) and long-time leader of Urban Kids Camp, start us off with their recommendations.
All are invited to add a recommendation by posting a comment below.
Rev. Kelvin Sauls: Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman – This book demonstrates how the gospel may be read as a manual of resistance for the poor and disenfranchised. Jesus’ life offers a solution to ending the descent into moral nihilism.
Tricia Hamilton: Real Life Devotions and Funny Stories for Women (2007) – It is the perfect devotional for women. It provides scripture, truth, and make me laugh through my tears!
