The California-Pacific Conference Justice and Compassion Essential Ministries Team (JCEMT) is pleased to announce the opening of our grant applications for 2023.
Please be aware that we are focusing on engaging ministries that are working toward Ending Spiritual and Physical Hunger. We know that this covers many different areas of ministry and are open to applications from across our entire Conference.
We particularly encourage applications from cooperative ministries (those involving several United Methodist churches, religious organizations, and outside agencies).
This year we are launching three grants simultaneously:
Justice and Compassion
The Justice and Compassion Grant is awarded to laity, clergy, congregations, and communities meaningfully engaged in ministries of justice and compassion locally and globally. JCEMT supports a wide variety of new and ongoing programs connected to the people of the United Methodist Church (UMC).

Hunger Grant
The hunger grant helps resource churches feeding those in their community who are in need. The funds are made available from Cal-Pac apportionment giving and from special collections made at local churches on Hunger Awareness Sunday. Those grant applications which collaborate with other churches and organizations to provide development of sustainability for those people being served will be given preference. In addition, we are encouraging ministries to work towards systemic change alongside their compassion work.

Peace with Justice Grants
The principal emphasis of the Peace with Justice Committee (PwJ) of the California-Pacific Conference is to work collaboratively with local United Methodist congregations and ministries for advocacy and action on peace with justice-related issues, such as ending gun violence, ending mass incarceration/mass detention, prison reentry, ending child poverty.
This grant aims to offer to local churches, agencies, and community organizations located within the boundaries of the California-Pacific Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church that carry out the mission of the Conference PwJ Committee. Preference for funding is given to requests from United Methodist affiliated organizations or ecumenical groups working with and through at least one United Methodist agency or organization. All applications must include an advocacy component in their proposed program or project.
