Get Ready for NYC!

Nexus will be held in New York City for the first time! Since we haven’t met in person since 2019, we decided to shake things up.
For this conference, our focus will be on Korean American pastors who serve in the United Methodist Church (we will invite laity again for the next convocation in 2025).

History of Nexus Ministry: In the 1980’s, two organizations were formed to support the growing ministry to English speaking 1.5 and 2nd generation Korean Americans in the UMC – TransGeneration Ministry (1983) and the Center for Korean-American English Ministries (1989). They sought to be a bridge between generations of immigrants while providing leadership and resources for the English Ministries (EM). In 2011, through a merger, Nexus Ministry was formed, with a recognition of the expanding ministries of the next generation, beyond the Korean church.
Today, many of our Korean American leaders are serving throughout the United Methodist Church, in diverse settings, including denominational boards and agencies, as missionaries, in cross-racial cross-cultural appointments, and in Korean American congregations. We also see an expansion of Nexus Ministry beyond the 1.5 and 2nd generation – our community includes leaders from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation.

We will be meeting at Community UMC in Jackson Heights, located in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world. 160 different languages are spoken here and the food is also amazing. Rev. Eumin Kim is the pastor at Community UMC, a vibrant multi-ethnic congregation with services in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
Participants will be staying at the brand-new Four Points by Sheraton in Flushing, a mecca of Asian food. Like the 3 million New Yorkers who take the subway every day, we’ll also be taking the 7 train from the hotel to Community UMC.
The registration fee does not cover the cost of the hotel and meals, but the remainder of the costs are covered by generous grants from the UMC churches and the Korean Ministry Plan. Limited scholarships are available, especially for seminarians and young clergy.
Please plan to arrive by early afternoon on Monday, August 7th at the hotel in Flushing so that you can join us for dinner at Community UMC in Jackson Heights by 6pm. You can plan to leave in the afternoon, after lunch on Wednesday, August 9th.
Registration may be paid by credit card or check. If paying by check, please send an email for further instructions. Participants should be pastors affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
