Affordable housing projects at Inglewood First United Methodist Church and East Whittier United Methodist Church were featured in a recent article by The New York Times.
Rev. Victor Cyrus-Franklin, pastor of Inglewood First United Methodist Church, was interviewed about plans for 60 studio apartments on the property. These efforts are possible because of the recent passing of California’s SB 4 last year. The law allows nonprofit colleges and faith-based institutions to get expedited approval for affordable housing projects regardless of zoning. This and similar laws are also called “Yes in God’s Backyard.”
