Valencia UMC packs 20,000 meals to Rise Against Hunger

by Kim Brosnan, Director of Connectional Ministries at Valencia UMC

What could be a better way to celebrate World Communion Sunday than to host a Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event?! Over 100 people from the Valencia United Methodist Church rose to the challenge, while handsomely wearing plastic gloves and hair nets. Last year they raised $4000 to package 10,000 meals to be sent around the world for those in need. This year they decided to DOUBLE their efforts and packaged 20,000!!!

This is an amazing intergenerational outreach project where there is something to do for all ages and mobility levels. There were many different ways to get involved including donation fundraising, set up, packaging (they had two 90 minute shifts after each worship service) and clean up. Aaron Cruse was their fantastic coordinator and can be reached at acruse@riseagainsthunger.org to schedule your own event!
