Now through June 15, help is needed for Saturday clean-ups in San Diego! Help bring flood-impacted families back home! Join volunteers in a one-day effort to make their homes safe, sanitary, and secure. Yes, it is dirty work, but it comes with a sense of accomplishment!
The flooding in San Diego this past winter resulted in more than 1500 homes damaged. There are still 800+ families living in hotels waiting to return to their homes. Workers are needed to help clean out these homes so that they are safe, secure, sanitary and, hopefully, livable.
The County voucher housing program ends June 21, so the push is on the get this huge job completed.
Vounteers are needed every Saturday through June 15 from 8am to 2pm in the San Diego area to help with the follow up clean up work in flood damaged homes.
Clean-up areas are in 92102, 92113 & 91977 zip codes. Specific addresses will be emailed to volunteers.
Volunteers will remove materials from homes, impacted by the January floods. They will also assist in removing damaged construction-related and household materials, including drywall, insulation, floorboards, paneling, and other damaged items from homes.
This project is for volunteers ages 18 and up. Volunteers should wear loose, comfortable clothing that they will not mind getting dirty. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. Volunteers will be provided with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for their tasks. Bring a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen (if needed). Do not bring any valuables as they would likely need to be locked up in a car.
